Lottery-Winning Solar Arc Directions

Hopefully, if you’re reading this, you already know the basics of astrology. If not, then take a look at a directed chart next to a natal chart so you can see that the directed planets and angles have maintained the exact same distances from each other that they held in the natal chart. The difference is that they have moved through the signs of the zodiac. We do not read the aspects of planets and points to each other in the directed chart since they are the same as in the natal, but we do compare the directed chart to the natal chart because having moved through signs, the planets and points form aspects to the stationary natal chart. These aspects indicate events we can expect to occur in the year of life we choose to examine.

Solar arc directions move everything in the natal chart forward by the exact same rate—the rate that the secondary progressed Sun moves in twenty-four hours. Confused now? The rate of the secondary progressed Sun is the distance in degrees, minutes and seconds that the Sun moves in one day. There are many ways to find this distance, but they are beyond the scope of this chapter. This distance is usually just less than one degree. For instance, the Sun at the time of birth for Subject A was 03 degrees, 15 minutes, and 06 seconds into Taurus. Twenty-four hours later, the Sun was 04 degrees, 13 minutes, and 32 seconds into Taurus, a distance of 58 minutes and 26 seconds. We then take that rate, the one of 58’ and 26”, and use it to progress everything in the chart. But every day has its own rate, and we want to use the distance not of the date of birth, but instead for the day that represents the number of years in age for the future time we wish to see. Subject A was 46 years and some months of age when she won the lottery. So we would find her birth date in the ephemeris, count down 46 days (which corresponds to June 9, 1950 in this case) and find the distance the Sun moved between that day and the next. Fortunately, we can use astrology software, which is so much faster and easier, but it’s important to understand the principle behind the process. One degree rises on the natal Ascendant every four minutes, and in any study of solar arc directions, we are warned that one degree on the directed Ascendant or Midheaven = one year. That’s how far off predictions can be for just four minutes of inaccuracy in birth time, and in more than 35 years of practicing astrology, I have always prescribed to that theory. However, in lottery astrology, we’ll see again and again that both applying and separating aspects with orbs of up to four degrees or so are still valid. Don’t take my word for it; see for yourself. The planets are neutral and without personal opinion; they are constant and consistent, and neither lie nor cheat. It is we who make the mistake of limiting ourselves with rules.

The solar arc directions as stand-alone charts are provided for those who may be inexperienced with reading concentric rings, or who may need larger fonts.

Subject A Solar Arc Directions

In the chart directed for the year in which Subject A won $35 million dollars, we see that the Midheaven reached 00 Pisces 25, which indicated a new phase in life. Pisces on the Midheaven, and Neptune, which had also just entered a new sign (00 Sagittarius 19), where it squared the Midheaven, suggests her life may have taken on a fantastical, mystical or glamorous quality in which she traveled to exotic locations she had long wanted to visit. Jupiter, ruler of the natal 9th house of long-distances, foreign places, cultures, languages and people, was in a tight trine with Uranus, ruler of the 9th house in the Directed chart. She may also have held strong religious or spiritual beliefs, suggested by Jupiter in Pisces in the natal chart, and Pisces on the cusp of the 12th house. She may also have been highly intuitive.

Pluto was also at 0 degrees Libra (an Aries point), and as we saw in the natal chart, Neptune and Pluto formed a yod with Venus, which was still in the 11th house, but now ruled the 5th of vacations, parties, entertainment, and of course, risks and gambles. Also, the directed Part of Fortune had reached a conjunction with the Prenatal Solar Eclipse at 27 Pisces 28, while the directed Vertex date with destiny trined it. The directed Vertex was just inside the cusp of the 8th house of lotteries.

With the directed chart placed around the natal wheel, we find directed Venus, ruler of the natal 2nd house of money, conjunct the natal Ascendant and Sun, ruler of the natal 5th house of risks and gambles. We then see that the directed Sun, ruler of the 5th, was in the natal 2nd house of money, and squared natal Venus in the 11th house of plot twists and lucky breaks.

Mars and Pluto ruled the natal 8th house of lotteries. Mars was also the chart ruler because Aries was the rising sign. Directed Mars was separating from a square to natal Transpluto of payoffs, but the greater importance was probably that it was in the same degree as the natal Moon’s Nodes, which is said to be fated. Pluto’s sextile with Neptune, which formed a yod with the directed Venus, natal Sun and natal Ascendant at the apex, was like a big flashing arrow that shouted, “You, here, now.” In addition, directed Neptune, which occupied the 8th house of lotteries, squared natal Jupiter in the 11th house of lucky breaks, where the directed Midheaven conjuncted it.

Uranus and Saturn co-ruled the 11th house of plot twists and lucky breaks. Directed Uranus conjuncted natal Pluto, primary ruler of the 8th house of lotteries. Directed Saturn conjuncted the natal Descendant, and made an out-of-sign trine with natal Jupiter in the 11th. Before it became partile with Jupiter, Saturn entered the 7th house and probably had an important impact on her closest relationships.

The progressed Moon’s Nodes were approaching the cusps of the 2nd and 8th houses, which as witnessed in other charts, is a powerful position. For beginners, the natural motion of the Moon's Nodes is almost always retrograde, but in Solar Arc Directions, everything is always moved forward. The North Node conjuncted natal Mercury, which had no particular super powers in the natal chart, but Mercury ruled the directed chart. Directed Mercury squared the natal Moon’s Nodes, marking a milestone or turning point in life. The South Node trined the natal Moon, ruler of the natal Nadir.

Directed Chiron, of triumphant ascendancy, rewards and once-in-a-lifetime events, opposed natal Transpluto of payoffs. Directed Transpluto squared natal Chiron and conjuncted natal Mars, the natal chart ruler and co-ruler of the 8th house of lotteries, which occupied the 5th house of risks and gambles.

The directed Vertex was just inside the cusp of the 8th house of lotteries, where it trined the directed Part of Fortune conjunction to the Prenatal Solar Eclipse at 27 Pisces 28.

The directed Midheaven in Pisces, which signaled a new phase in life, conjuncted natal Jupiter in the 11th house of plot twists and lucky breaks. It sextiled the natal Ascendant and Sun, and trined Uranus, ruler of the natal 11th house.

The directed Ascendant trined natal Neptune and squared natal Venus, which were in mutual reception. Neptune neither occupied nor ruled a winning house, but Venus occupied the 11th of plot twists and lucky breaks, and ruled the 2nd house of money. The directed Ascendant also trined the Prenatal Lunar Eclipse at 12 Libra 32, exactly conjunct the natal Vertex.

And now the transits to the directed chart:

Let’s begin the transits with Mercury, the directed chart ruler. Transiting Mercury trined the directed Midheaven and conjuncted directed Saturn, ruler of the 8th house of lotteries, which occupied the 5th house of risks and gambles. Transiting Mercury also opposed directed Venus, ruler of the 5th house, in the 11th house of lucky breaks.

The transiting Full Moon, ruler of the directed 2nd house of money, had just entered the 12th house of other realms. It sextiled directed Mercury, the chart ruler, at the cusp of the 2nd house.

Transiting Venus ruled the 5th house of risks and gambles. It conjuncted directed Pluto of transformative wealth, sextiled the directed Vertex date with destiny, and opposed the directed Part of Fortune and Prenatal Solar Eclipse at 27 Pisces 28.

Saturn ruled the 8th house of lotteries. Transiting Saturn trined directed Neptune, ruler of the Midheaven, and opposed Pluto. Transiting Jupiter and the transiting Part of Fortune activated the 8th house from the cusp.

Mars ruled the 11th house of plot twists and lucky breaks. Transiting Mars conjuncted the directed Nadir, sextiled Saturn, ruler of the 8th house of lotteries in the 5th house of risks and gambles, and squared the directed Vertex date with destiny.

Uranus transited through the 8th house of lotteries where it squared directed Venus, ruler of the 5th of risks and gambles, which occupied the 11th of lucky breaks. It further sextiled directed Neptune, ruler of the Midheaven. But probably the most important aspect it made was the trine to Pluto, planet of wealth, with a difference of only ten minutes.

Transiting Pluto and the transiting Vertex date with destiny, squared the directed Midheaven and conjuncted directed Neptune, ruler of the Midheaven.

Neptune, transiting through the 8th house of lotteries, squared directed Saturn, ruler of the 8th house, occupying the 5th house of risks and gambles. Neptune also sextiled the directed Part of Fortune, which conjuncted the Prenatal Solar Eclipse at 27 Pisces 28.

Representing turning points and milestones in life, the transiting Moon’s Nodes were just inside the cusps of the 5th house of risks and gambles, and the 11th house of plot twists and lucky breaks.

The transiting Midheaven, which moves so quickly we can use it like a stopwatch, also conjuncted the Part of Fortune and Prenatal Solar Eclipse. The transiting East Point, which represents personal matters that take place in public, or which capture the public’s imagination, squared them. The transiting Ascendant squared directed Jupiter in the 11th house of lucky breaks.

Of the remaining children on the streets, transiting Transpluto of payoffs squared the directed Vertex date with destiny, but transiting Chiron was still a whopping 5 degrees from conjuncting Saturn, ruler of the 8th house of lotteries, occupying the 5th house of risks and gambles.

Subject B Solar Arc Directions

Solar arc directed charts maintain the same aspects between the planets as those held in the natal charts. There was nothing outstanding in the solar arcs of Subject B, however, the Ascendant had reached an Aries Point. Anyone who has knowingly experienced a sign change of the Ascendant or Sun by direction realizes there’s no toggle that flips and makes us suddenly different, but it does signal a new beginning.

The directed Ascendant arrived at the cusp of the natal 2nd house of money and opposed natal Jupiter, ruler of the natal Midheaven, which activated the 8th house of lotteries from the cusp.

The directed Ascendant and Sun also arrived at the apex between natal Neptune and natal Pluto becoming the apex of a yod (the hand of God or finger of fate). Natal Pluto, which was powerfully angular, sextiled natal Neptune in the 8th house of lotteries, Neptune being a chart co-ruler because Pisces was intercepted in the 1st house.

The directed Sun had crossed and activated the natal cusp of the 2nd house of money, while it trined natal Uranus, the natal chart ruler.

Directed Pluto was applying to a conjunction with the natal Moon, ruler of the 5th house of risks and gambles, in the 8th house of lotteries. This was one of the indicators of a life completely altered, an intensely emotional end to one way of life, and the birth of a new one. In natal astrology, when Pluto conjuncts the Moon, it often indicates the loss or death of an important woman in the life—a mother, wife, maybe grandmother or sister. It can also mean the destruction of a home. We don’t know if something like that happened around the time of the win. We only know that nothing would ever be the same again for Subject B.

Directed Pluto also trined natal Mercury in Aquarius. The sign of Mercury’s exaltation is a hotly debated subject among astrologers. Some say that it’s exalted in Virgo, which is one of the signs of its rulership. Others see its lightening-fast, original and inventive qualities exalted in Aquarius. Uranus is the higher octave of Mercury, so there’s much to be said for that theory. Among those who believed so were Isabel Hickey, Jess Stern, Frances Sakoian, Louis Acker, Marian March and Joan McEvers, just to start.

Subject B must have had some kind of inkling. Directed Mercury, which squared the natal Midheaven / Nadir axis was supposedly debilitated, both in its detriment and its fall by virtue of being in Pisces and the 12th house of the directed chart, but the only way it could have been more intuitive was if it had also conjuncted Neptune.

Notice that directed Jupiter was separating from a conjunction to natal Neptune by two and a half degrees in the 8th house of lotteries, while squaring natal Mercury, at the same time that directed Neptune sextiled natal Mercury in the 12th house of intuition and other realms. Mercury also squared the Prenatal Solar Eclipse at 10 Sagittarius 09, and natal Saturn, ruler of the 11th house of plot twists and lucky breaks.

Directed Saturn and the directed Midheaven in the 11th house of lucky breaks opposed the natal Part of Fortune in the 5th house of risks and gambles — the directed Midheaven by a mere three minutes in orb.

Directed Uranus brought sudden changes to Subject B’s path in life through a square to the natal Midheaven and trine to natal Mars, ruler of the 2nd house of money. It also opposed the natal East Point, which represents a personal matter that takes place in public, or attracts public attention.

The directed Moon’s Nodes, which indicate milestones and turning points, sextiled and trined the natal Ascendant / Descendant axis, and the natal Sun and Pluto.

The directed Part of Fortune squared the natal Moon’s Nodes.

Directed Chiron, of triumphant ascendancy and rewards, trined the natal Part of Fortune in the 5th house of risks and gambles.

Directed Transpluto of payoffs conjuncted the natal Vertex date with destiny.

And now the transits to the directed chart:

In the transits of Subject B to the directed chart, let’s begin with Mars, ruler of the directed Ascendant, and co-ruler of the 8th house of lotteries. Transiting Mars was just about to leave the 8th house, but before it went, it conjuncted directed Neptune, then the Prenatal Solar Eclipse at 10 Sagittarius 09.

Notice that transiting Mars was also conjunct transiting Mercury, which was retrograde and would turn stationary direct in four days. At this point, it was like a stalled hurricane gathering strength. Whenever two or more planets join forces to aspect a third planet, the power of the aspect is greatly increased. Both were squaring directed Mercury, which in spite of neither occupying nor ruling a winning house, has been shown to be very intuitive in this win, due to being in Pisces and in the 12th house of intuition. They also squared directed Uranus in the 6th, which ruled the 11th house of lucky breaks, as well as directed Transpluto of payoffs, which transiting Jupiter (bigger, better more) conjuncted. To top it off, directed Transpluto and transiting Jupiter trined the directed Midheaven, which transiting Neptune conjuncted. Neptune near the Midheaven often brings altruistic and charitable activities.

Transiting Neptune was part of a stellium that included conjunctions with transiting Uranus, ruler of the 11th house of plot twists and lucky breaks, the Vertex date with destiny, and the North Node of the Moon. The stellium trined the directed Uranus / Transpluto conjunction, which transiting Jupiter supported by conjunction. The transiting Midheaven was in the second house, pulling all of them into a Grand Trine.
The stellium also squared the directed East Point, which represents a personal matter that takes place in public, attracts public notice or captures the public’s attention.

The transiting Sun, ruler of the 5th house of risks and gambles, was a little too far behind to count as part of the stellium, but was not without its charms. It trined the directed Part of Fortune in the 5th house of risks and gambles where the transiting Ascendant and Transpluto of payoffs conjuncted it.

Transiting Venus, ruler of the 2nd house of money, conjuncted the directed Moon in the 8th house of lotteries, and sextiled directed Uranus, ruler of the 11th house of plot twists and lucky breaks. The transiting Moon reciprocated by conjuncting directed Venus, but made an even closer conjunction to Chiron, of triumphant ascendancy and once-in-a-lifetime events, with only two minutes of orb.

Transiting Pluto, primary ruler of the 8th house of lotteries, trined directed Venus, ruler of the 2nd house of money, and squared the directed Part of Fortune in the 5th house of risks and gambles.

Lest we forget, transiting Saturn, ruler of the Midheaven, sextiled the directed Sun, ruler of the 5th house of risks and gambles, and trined directed Pluto, primary ruler of the 8th house of lotteries, across the Ascendant / Descendant axis.

The transiting Moon’s Nodes, which bring about milestones or turning points in life, trined and sextiled the directed Mercury / directed Uranus opposition.

The transiting Part of Fortune conjuncted the Prenatal Lunar Eclipse at 25 Taurus 55, in the 2nd house of money.

Subject C Solar Arc Directions

Here we have the solar arc directed chart of Subject C, winner of $21 million dollars, with an Aries Point on the Midheaven, indicating a new beginning. Subject C also has the directed Sun at an Aries point—00 Capricorn 00. If we check the math, we’ll find the Sun only 21 seconds into the Winter Solstice sign.

Directed Saturn, ruler of the 2nd house of money, conjuncted the Prenatal Lunar Eclipse at 21 Pisces 49, while directed Chiron, of crowning achievements and once-in-a-lifetime rewards, trined it. Transpluto of payoffs opposed it.

Comparing the directed chart to the natal chart of Subject C, we have another highly intuitive aspect. This time the directed Neptune made an exact partile conjunction to the natal Moon, in a perceptive water sign, and a money sign, and it was angular. Neptune, ruler the 5th house of risks and gambles, also conjuncted the natal Ascendant, Part of Fortune and Sun, ruler of the natal Midheaven. Natal Neptune conjuncted the Prenatal Solar Eclipse at 08 Virgo 10.

Directed Jupiter, ruler of the 2nd house of money, in conjunction with the directed South Node, together conjuncted the natal East Point, which represents a matter that captures the public’s attention or imagination. Jupiter and the South Node further sextiled natal Neptune, ruler of the 5th house of risks and gambles, in the 11th house of plot twists and lucky breaks.

Directed Mercury, ruler of both the 8th house of lotteries and 11th house of lucky breaks, trined natal Jupiter and the South Node in the 11th house. It also squared natal Uranus, ruler of the Nadir, and planet of shocks, surprises and sudden changes.

Returning to the Ascendant, Mars and Pluto were the chart rulers. Directed Mars opposed natal Uranus, which was eh. Nothing much happening there. It was still four degrees away. But directed Pluto was a whole other story. It conjuncted the natal South Node and Jupiter in the 11th house of plot twists and lucky breaks. Of course, Jupiter ruled the 2nd house of money.

Directed Uranus, which occupied the 8th house of lotteries, squared Jupiter and both of the Moon’s Nodes, which occupied the 5th house of risks and gambles and the 11th house of plot twists and lucky breaks.

Also in the 11th house, directed Transpluto of payoffs conjuncted natal Venus. From the 2nd house of money, the directed Ascendant, Part of Fortune and Moon, squared Venus in the 11th house.

Directed Chiron of triumphant ascendancy and once-in-a-lifetime events, conjuncted natal Pluto of wealth and transformation, and the directed Vertex date with destiny conjuncted natal Transpluto of payoffs.

The Vertex also squared the Ascendant. Chiron trined the Prenatal Lunar Eclipse at 21 Pisces 49, and directed Saturn conjuncted it. Saturn ruled the directed 2nd house of money and resources.

Below the chart shows the winning transits around the directed wheel.

Quick! What do we notice first? Transiting Uranus (which can strike us like lightning) conjuncted the directed Ascendant. Surprise, surprise, surprise. Changing fortunes. Uranus also squared directed Saturn, ruler of the 2nd house of money, and Transpluto of payoffs which were opposed to each other in the natal and directed charts by only four minutes.

Transiting Jupiter, the chart ruler, conjuncted directed Saturn, ruler of the 2nd house of money, and the Prenatal Lunar Eclipse at 21 Pisces 49. Jupiter also made a partile trine to directed Venus, ruler of the Midheaven and 11th house of plot twists and lucky breaks, which also occupied the 11th.

Interestingly, directed Saturn, ruler of the 2nd house of money, received many aspects from transits, but transiting Saturn made no aspects to any of the directed planets or angles.

Transiting Mars, ruler of the 5th house of risks and gambles, having just separated from a conjunction to directed Mercury, trined directed Transpluto of payoffs. It also sextiled Saturn, ruler of the 2nd house of money, and opposed directed Chiron of triumphant ascendancy and once-in-a-lifetime events.

The transiting Moon, ruler of the 8th house of lotteries, occupied the 2nd house of money where it trined directed Mars, ruler of the 5th house of risks and gambles, in the 10th house of public recognition. It squared directed Venus, which the transiting Ascendant conjuncted, in the 11th house of plot twists and lucky breaks, which it also ruled, along with the directed Midheaven.

Directed Venus, also received a square from Transpluto of payoffs, moving through the 8th house of lotteries, with only six minutes of orb. And finally, transiting Venus, moving through the 7th house, trined the Prenatal Solar Eclipse at 08 Virgo 10.

The transiting North and South Nodes of the Moon conjuncted the cusps of the 5th house of risk and gambles and the 11th house of plot twists and lucky breaks.

The transiting Ascendant trined directed Saturn, ruler of the 2nd house of money, the Prenatal Lunar Eclipse at 21 Pisces 49, and directed Chiron of triumphant ascendancy and rewards.

The transiting Midheaven trined the directed East Point, both being places that attract public attention, and conjuncted the Prenatal Solar Eclipse at 08 Virgo 10.

The transiting Part of Fortune conjuncted the directed Vertex date with destiny in the 8th house of lotteries, and squared directed Neptune in the 11th house of lucky breaks.

Transiting Chiron, of crowning achievements and rewards, in conjunction with transiting Mercury, together conjuncted directed Uranus, planet of shocks, surprises and sudden changes in fortune. They also trined directed Mars, ruler of the 5th house of risks and gambles, which occupied the 10th house of public acknowledgment.

Subject D Solar Arc Directions

This was the directed chart of Subject D, winner of $13 million dollars. There were no new beginnings in life, no mutual receptions had formed and no final dispositors had appeared. However, while the Moon trined the conjunction of the Sun and Venus, just as it did in the natal chart, the house rulership of those planets had changed. In the directed chart, the Sun ruled the 8th house of lotteries, and Venus ruled the 5th house of risks and gambles, as well as the Midheaven. Saturn, which conjuncted Pluto, planet of wealth and transformation, had become the directed chart ruler as well as co-ruler of the 2nd house of money, and Pluto was co-ruler of the 11th house of plot twists and lucky breaks.

Another thing worth noting above was that directed Chiron, of triumphant ascendancy, rewards and once-in-a-lifetime events, conjuncted the Prenatal Lunar Eclipse at 12 Sagittarius 22 in the directed 11th house of plot twists and lucky breaks.

The comparison of solar arc directions to the natal chart of Subject D below is a prime example of how lucky a chart looks when we win a huge sum of money.

Directed Saturn, ruler of the 2nd house of money, and directed Pluto, planet of wealth and transformation, conjuncted the natal Midheaven. That was exceptionally powerful energy. Oddly enough, this is a combination that often shows up in secondary progressed charts when the chart owner has joined the military or police force, and is about to embark on the most dangerous year of his or her life. Pluto = power, and Saturn = authority.

Saturn, ruler of the 2nd house of money, squared the natal East Point to capture the attention of the public. Saturn also squared natal Uranus of sudden and unexpected changes in fortune; directed Uranus, in turn, conjuncted the natal Part of Fortune in the 8th house of lotteries.

Directed Pluto conjuncted natal Mercury, ruler of the Midheaven at the Midheaven, completely altering Subject D’s path in life forever. Pluto also sextiled natal Jupiter, the chart ruler, showing the opportunity for good fortune. It also squared the East Point.

Directed Transpluto of payoffs, and the directed Part of Fortune, which were part of the stellium at the Midheaven, conjuncted both the natal Sun and natal Venus, ruler of the 11th house of plot twists and lucky breaks. It trined the natal Moon, ruler of the 8th house of lotteries.

Directed Mars, ruler of the 5th house of risks and gambles, conjuncted the directed Vertex date with destiny, and together they:
  • Squared the natal chart ruler, Jupiter, as well as the natal Moon’s Nodes.
  • Trined the natal East Point, which was like saying to the public, “She took a chance that paid off big time.”
  • Sextiled natal Uranus, bringing opportunity for a sudden change in fortune.

The Moon ruled the 8th house of lotteries. The directed Moon in the 7th house squared natal Mercury at the natal Midheaven, and also ruled it.

Venus ruled the 11th house of twists of fate and lucky breaks. In conjunction with the directed Sun, directed Venus:
  • Squared the Vertex date with destiny in the 8th house of lotteries.
  • Sextiled Saturn, ruler of the 2nd house of money.
  • Sextiled the East Point, which captured public attention.
Also from the 11th house, the conjunction of directed Mercury and Midheaven made a trine to natal Uranus. Directed Uranus conjuncted the natal Part of Fortune and natal Transpluto of payoffs. It also squared natal Chiron, of triumphant ascendancy and rewards, in the 11th house of lucky breaks. The directed Moon’s Nodes sextiled and trined natal Chiron, of crowning achievements, helping to bring about a turning point or milestone.

Directed Neptune squared natal Saturn, ruler of the 2nd house of money, and trined natal Mars, ruler of the 5th house of risks and gambles, along with the natal Vertex date with destiny in the 8th house of lotteries.

Directed Chiron conjuncted the Prenatal Lunar Eclipse at 12 Sagittarius 22 in the 1st house, and squared both the natal Sun and natal Venus, ruler of the 11th house of plot twists and lucky breaks.

The directed Ascendant had just entered the natal 2nd house of money. From there, it:
  • Trined the natal Moon, ruler of the 8th house of lotteries.
  • Trined the natal Sun and Venus. Venus ruled the 11th house of lucky breaks.
  • Squared natal Neptune in the 10th house of public acknowledgment.

Finally, the directed East Point, in the middle of the 2nd house of money, trined the Prenatal Solar Eclipse at 28 Taurus 42, then opposed the natal Part of Fortune in the 8th house of lotteries.

Below: A very merry Christmas to Subject D! These were the transits to the directed chart on December 22, 1984, the evening that Subject D won a lucky $13 million dollars in the lottery.

We can see how the transiting Moon acted as a timer to conjunct the directed Ascendant that says “You. Here. Now.” A new Moon occurred just before Sunrise, about fourteen hours and some odd minutes before the drawing. Whenever new Moons and eclipses make strong aspects to our charts, we need to pay attention to what else might be going on. For instance, the transiting Sun, ruler of the 8th house of lotteries, and transiting Neptune, planet of “Is this real?” were conjunct each other that evening, and together, they conjuncted the directed Jupiter and South Node of the Moon, near the Ascendant. Of course, this was the Winter Solstice Moon, and for that reason alone we should take a careful look at the aspects it made. But if you recall, when we looked at the transits to the natal chart, we noticed only that the Moon, fourteen and some odd hours later, conjuncted the cusp of the 2nd house. We’ll be looking at lunations in a later chapter, but for now, let’s remember to look not only at new Moons in our natal charts, but the aspects they make in all of our progressed and directed charts, too.

Transiting Jupiter, moving through the 1st house, squared the directed Sun / Venus conjunction. The directed Sun ruled the 8th house of lotteries. Directed Venus ruled the Midheaven and the 5th house of risks and gambles. Jupiter square Venus is a classic aspect of “too much” or “extravagance.” The transiting Vertex date with destiny squared natal Mercury and the Midheaven, while applying to a conjunction with the directed East Point of public attention.

Transiting Venus was just 10 minutes into the directed 2nd house of money, right on the cusp, where it trined the Sun / Venus conjunction. It squared Neptune, planet of fantasies, in the 10th house of the public, where it undoubtedly burst many bubbles of illusion for those who didn’t win. And finally, it also trined the directed Moon, ruler of the Descendant. It was a highly active Venus.

Mars, co-ruler of the 11th house of plot twists and lucky breaks, also transited through the 2nd house of money, where it trined the directed Midheaven and sextiled directed Jupiter. Easy aspects between Mars and Jupiter are always welcome.

The transiting Midheaven had just crossed the cusp into the 5th house of risks and gambles, and we might say it reached its goal, because that’s one of the things the Midheaven represents—our goals, and those things to which we aspire. Our Yearning. Our perceived purpose in Life. Our raison d'être. Our ikigai. It's our brand and how we roll.

The transiting North Node of the Moon, also in the 5th house, conjuncted the Prenatal Solar Eclipse at 28 Taurus 42. It had reached the apex of two natal inconjunct aspects, one with the directed Midheaven, and one with directed Jupiter. That’s a yod, the hand of God or finger of fate aspect.

The transiting North Node also trined the directed East Point, which captured public imagination. The transiting East Point:

  • Conjuncted the cusp of the 8th house of lotteries, and directed Mars, co-ruler of the 11th house of lucky breaks.
  • Sextiled the directed Sun, ruler of the 8th house of lotteries.
  • Squared directed Neptune in the 10th house of public acknowledgment.
  • Opposed directed Venus, ruler of the Midheaven and 5th house of risks and gambles, occupying the 2nd house of money.

The transiting Ascendant was just separating from a trine with directed Jupiter, and in an out-of-sign trine with the directed South Node, the transiting Ascendant being thirty seconds shy of 00 Virgo, and the South Node at 02 Capricorn.

Transiting Pluto was a couple of degrees past the trine and sextile to the directed Moon’s Nodes, and square to directed Uranus, ruler of the 2nd house of money.

Transiting Saturn, the chart ruler, just inside the cusp of the 11th house, conjuncted the transiting South Node of the Moon. It sextiled its own directed position, and squared the Mars / Vertex conjunction in the 8th house of lotteries.

Last, but not least, we come to the lucky 11th house conjunction of transiting Mercury and transiting Uranus, ruler of the 2nd house of money. They conjuncted directed Chiron of triumphant ascendancy and once-in-a-lifetime rewards, and the Prenatal Lunar Eclipse at 12 Sagittarius 22.

Subject E Solar Arc Directions

Here we have another Christmas gift, this one just a day late. This directed chart belonged to Subject E, winner of $3.3 million dollars.

In the natal chart, Jupiter, ruler of the natal 2nd house of money, squared the Moon’s Nodes, which were conjunct the Midheaven / Nadir axis, evidence of a fortunate stroke of luck that would bring a turning point, or mark a milestone in the life of Subject E. However, in the directed chart, Jupiter had become the chart ruler.

Venus, in mutual reception with Mercury, had come to rule both the Midheaven and 11th house of plot twists and lucky breaks. The Midheaven held a relatively new sign, indicating a recent new path in life.

Mars had become the ruler of the 5th house of risks and gambles, and squared Venus. Mars also trined the Prenatal Lunar Eclipse at 21 Leo 14, which had moved from a conjunction with the natal Midheaven to the 8th house of lotteries. At just under a five degree orb, Mars still made a wide opposition to Jupiter, now the chart ruler.

The Moon, now ruler of the 8th house of lotteries, occupied the 11th house of plot twists and lucky breaks, and trined the Prenatal Solar Eclipse at 05 Pisces 43.

The stellium in the directed 9th house turned up in the natal 11th house of plot twists and lucky breaks. Directed Uranus conjuncted the natal Midheaven, indicating sudden and exciting changes would affect Subject E’s path in life. Uranus aspected many of the planets in the natal stellium:
  • It conjuncted Pluto, the chart ruler, planet of wealth and transformation.
  • Conjuncted the Moon’s South Node.
  • Conjuncted Mercury, ruler of the natal 8th house of lotteries and 11th house of plot twists and lucky breaks.
  • Sextiled the natal Vertex date with destiny in the 8th house of lotteries.
  • Squared the East Point, which captured the public’s imagination.

When we move to the Ascendant, we find that Mars and Pluto were the chart rulers. Directed Mars, along with the directed Ascendant that points to “You. Here. Now,” activated the cusp of the natal 2nd house of money, and trined the natal Pluto and South Node at the Midheaven. Remember that the Prenatal Lunar Eclipse at 21 Leo 14 fell right between natal Pluto and the South Node. Directed Pluto in the 11th house was still within orb of a conjunction to the natal Moon, and sextiled the East Point, which captured public attention.

The directed Moon in the 12th house was only nine minutes short of a partile square with the natal Sun, ruler of the Midheaven. The directed Vertex date with destiny conjuncted the natal Sun.

Directed Saturn, ruler of the directed 2nd house of money, was only two minutes shy of a partile opposition to the angular Jupiter, ruler of the natal 2nd house of money.

As just stated, Jupiter ruled the 2nd house of money. Directed Jupiter conjuncted the natal Vertex date with destiny in the 8th house of lotteries. Jupiter also sextiled the natal Midheaven, and natal Mercury, ruler of the 8th house, and 11th house of lucky breaks. It squared the natal Moon in the 11th house. Once we have gotten deeper into the charts of Subject E, we can return to re-think the rulers and their houses in a different way.

While we’re in the a
rea of the 2nd house of money, the natal Part of Fortune, and Chiron, of triumphant ascendancy and once-in-a-lifetime rewards, were in conjunction in the natal 2nd house of money. The directed East Point shone a light on the conjunction and captured the imagination of the public.

The directed Part of Fortune conjunction with Chiron, found deep in the 3rd house, squared the natal Ascendant / Descendant axis, as well as natal Mars, chart co- ruler, in conjunction with the natal Ascendant. The directed Part of Fortune also opposed natal Venus in Leo, sign of happy parties.

Neptune ruled the 5th house of risks and gambles. Directed Neptune conjuncted the natal East Point, which directed the public’s imagination in the 1st house of identity, while it simultaneously squared natal Mercury, ruler of the natal 8th house of lotteries and 11th house of plot twists and lucky breaks, at the Midheaven of public limelight. Neptune square Mercury is a classic symbol of “Is this real?” Directed Neptune also sextiled the natal Moon, an exceptionally perceptive and intuitive aspect, in the 11th house of plot twists.

The directed Moon’s Nodes, which occupied the 5th house of risks and gambles and 11th house of lucky breaks, trined and sextiled the natal East Point, which captured the imagination of the public.

Mercury ruled both the 8th house of lotteries and the 11th house of plot twists and lucky breaks. Directed Mercury was in the 11th house where it sextiled the natal Sun, ruler of the Midheaven, and squared the Part of Fortune in the 2nd house of money. In the 8th house, directed Jupiter, ruler of the natal 2nd house of money, conjuncted the natal Vertex date with destiny. Jupiter also sextiled the natal Midheaven and Mercury, which leads back to the 8th and 11th houses again. The directed Vertex date with destiny conjuncted the natal Sun.

The directed Sun conjuncted directed Transpluto of payoffs, and they sextiled and trined the Ascendant / Descendant axis, as well as the Mars / Jupiter opposition which spanned it.

In the winning transits to the directed chart:

Return planets, even if it isn’t to the natal position, appear to be helpful in lottery astrology, such as transiting Mars conjuncting directed Mars on the Ascendant of this chart. Of course, that means transiting Mars repeated the same aspects made by the directed Mars: a square to directed Venus, ruler of the Midheaven and 11th house of lucky breaks; and a trine to the Prenatal Lunar Eclipse at 21 Leo 14, brought to public attention through a conjunction of the transiting East Point.

The transiting Sun sextiled the Prenatal Solar Eclipse at 05 Pisces 43.

We’ve established a pattern of examining charts—Ascendant, Midheaven, and their rulers; those of the 2nd, 5th, 8th, and 11th houses; sweeping the children off the streets—but this one is an exception because of a combination of aspects that were most likely the outstanding factor in this win. Have you found it already?

  • Transiting Jupiter and transiting Uranus were in trine to each other. Transiting Jupiter (chart ruler) conjuncted the directed Transpluto (only five minutes from partile), and transiting Uranus trined that conjunction. But that’s not all.
  • Transiting Uranus joined transiting Neptune, and together trined directed Transpluto, giving it even more of a boost. That was more than enough to win, but there was still more.
  • Transiting Transpluto conjuncted directed Uranus in the 8th house of lotteries. But there was more! Is this beginning to sound like a late-night infomercial?
  • Whatever you do, don’t miss the amazing transit of Mercury in conjunction with the transiting Part of Fortune which squared directed Transpluto to make it even more active!
  • As a free bonus gift, yours to keep, we’ll throw in transiting Venus, ruler of the Midheaven and 11th house of lucky breaks, conjunct transiting Pluto of great wealth, all of which squared Uranus in the 8th house.
  • Just pay separate shipping and handling and we’ll show you how directed Uranus and transiting Transpluto trined the directed Ascendant.
  • If you’re not 100% satisfied, we’ll give you the shiny new transiting East Point that captured the public’s attention by conjuncting directed Uranus in the 8th house of lotteries. We guarantee you will never want to return this combination! But we’re still not done!
  • A date with destiny was created by the transiting Vertex just inside the cusp of the 2nd house of money.
  • And! The transiting Moon, ruler of the 8th house of lotteries, squared the Ascendant / Descendant axis and directed Jupiter, the chart ruler!
  • But wait! If you need yet another reason to buy this winning combination right now, check out Saturn, ruler of the 2nd house of money, separating from a square to the directed Moon, ruler of the 8th house of lotteries. Hold this one in your memory or make a note of it because we'll be coming back to it in another chapter. Another hint: You might also want to be able to recall transiting Mars conjunct directed Mars, ruler of the 4th house.
