Subject F Solar Arc Directions

There was nothing outstanding about the solar arc directed chart of Subject F. There was no new sign on the Midheaven or Ascendant, no mutual reception, no final dispositor. The good news is that we can still win even if there’s not a lot going on in our own directed charts, as long as what’s going on is the right stuff.

Directed Jupiter trined the Prenatal Solar Eclipse at 04 Aquarius 33. Jupiter is the ruler of Sagittarius, intercepted in the 5th house of risks and gambles, and ancient ruler of Pisces, on the cusp of the 8th house of lotteries.

Both Venus and Neptune squared the Prenatal Lunar Eclipse at 19 Leo 21. Neptune is the modern ruler of Pisces, sign on the 8th house of lotteries, and Venus ruled the 11th house of plot twists and lucky breaks. Venus squared Mars and trined Pluto, co-rulers of the 5th house of risks and gambles.

When we place the directed chart of Subject F around his natal chart, Mercury, the natal chart ruler, conjuncted the Ascendant and trined the natal Midheaven.

Ruler of the 2nd house of money, the Moon occupied the 8th house of lotteries, and squared the natal Sun in the 11th house of plot twists and lucky breaks. It also made an inconjunct to the Ascendant and natal Saturn, ruler of the 8th house of lotteries, showing an adjustment to his personal identity due to the win.

Venus, ruler of the natal 5th house of risks and gambles, squared natal Jupiter, an aspect of exuberance and self-indulgence. Jupiter is the ancient ruler of Pisces, intercepted in the natal 10th house of public reputation. Venus also squared the Prenatal Lunar Eclipse at 19 Leo 21.

Saturn was a pivotal planet in this man’s life and charts. It conjuncted the natal Ascendant and ruled his 8th house of sex, death, renewal, surgery, community property, and of course, lotteries. In the two years before the win, directed Saturn conjuncted his natal Pluto, an intense aspect about control and power; an immovable object vs. irresistible force. Saturn represents structure and Pluto is about transformation, but this wasn’t Pluto destroying Saturn structure. It’s the other way around. This was Saturn narrowing and focusing its energy like a laser in order to transform the winner’s personal evolution. This was no easy task and we could equate it to two years of boot camp or hard labor. In almost any other chart, we might expect crushing financial burdens, struggling with health problems, or the loss of important people in his life. This is the combination that caused Trump to be impeached, the Covid-19 pandemic and the stock market and oil crashes. We’ve all heard that it’s always darkest before the dawn, but we’re not privy to that information in this man’s life. What we do know is that these are two outer planets with wide orbs of influence, so although Saturn was two years out by direction, it was still in effect. We’ve seen separating aspects in many of the other charts that were obvious contributors to the big win. How do we know that’s the case here? Because Pluto is the planet of wealth, power and total transformation, and Saturn is the ruler of the 8th house of lotteries.

Now we need to look at another Saturn aspect that was just as important: the trine to the natal Moon, ruler of the 2nd house of money. To have the rulers of these two houses in an easy aspect to each other is always a good sign. Saturn also opposed the natal Part of Fortune by only one minute.

Mars ruled the 11th house of plot twists and lucky breaks, and trined the natal Sun in the 11th house. It also sextiled the natal Ascendant / Saturn conjunction.

There were four rulers for the Midheaven of this chart. Saturn and Uranus ruled Aquarius, and Jupiter and Neptune ruled the intercepted sign of Pisces.

We’ve covered Saturn.

Directed Uranus (unexpected) squared (shocks) the natal Sun in the 11th house of lucky breaks.

Directed Jupiter smiled all over this chart:
  • It conjuncted natal Neptune (joyful disbelief, dreams come true).
  • Opposed natal Venus, ruler of the 5th house of risks and gambles.
  • Trined natal Uranus, surprising twists of fate.
  • Sextiled the natal Transpluto / North Node conjunction in the 2nd house of money.
  • On the other side of the chart, it sextiled the Moon, ruler of the 2nd house of money, and trined the South Node.
  • Did it square natal Mars, ruler of the 11th house of lucky breaks? Possibly. If so, then it sextiled natal Pluto, as well.

While directed Jupiter conjuncted natal Neptune, directed Neptune squared natal Jupiter, and the Prenatal Lunar Eclipse at 19 Leo 21.

In transits, the Moon’s Nodes seem to have a built-in orb of three degrees, meaning that as often as not, they will activate an aspect they are about to complete while still three degrees from partile. The chart we’re looking at wasn’t a transit chart, though. It was a solar arc directed chart, where the planets move roughly one degree per year. So the question here was whether the directed Moon’s Nodes at 19 degrees of Pisces and Virgo are in square to the natal Saturn / Ascendant conjunction at 22 and 23 degrees of Gemini? This was one of those situations where it’s difficult to say, but we’ve already seen dozens of times where wide orbs and even separating aspects still appear to work, and we’re only in the second chapter. There are so many aspects in this chart that are off by two degrees or so, that we might wonder if the birth time was slightly off. Often, as we continue to study the chart through other methods such as transits, different types of progressions or harmonics, these doubts work themselves out.

Of the children:

  • The Part of Fortune squared the natal Saturn / Ascendant conjunction.

  • Directed Chiron, of rare opportunities and crowning achievements, was roughly three degrees past the trine to the Ascendant, and one degree from a trine to the natal Midheaven.
  • The directed Vertex date with destiny had reached an Aries point at 00 Capricorn 00, the Winter Solstice point. It squared the natal Venus / Neptune opposition, rulers of the 5th house of risks and gambles, and the intercepted Midheaven.
Below are the winning transits compared to the directed chart:

This is one of those situations where doubts about the correct birth time begin to fade. Transiting Chiron, of triumphant ascendancy and crowning achievements, conjuncted the directed Ascendant by only one minute. That’s pretty clarifying.

With Leo on the directed Ascendant, the Sun became the chart ruler. The transiting Sun had just entered the 5th house of risks and gambles (remember how sensitive the house cusps are in the Porphyry house system) where it formed a Grand Trine with directed Uranus and the directed Part of Fortune (by only two minutes) and was assisted by the transiting Moon, which conjuncted the Part of Fortune and trined Uranus (again, by only two minutes).

Before we move to the ruler of the 2nd house, let’s take notice of transiting Transpluto of payoffs, conjunct directed Mars in the 1st house. Mars ruled the Midheaven and co-ruled the 5th house of risks and gambles.

Mercury ruled the 2nd house of money where Virgo was on the cusp. Transiting Mercury conjuncted the transiting Vertex date with destiny. Together, they squared directed Transpluto of payoffs, and the directed Moon’s Nodes in the 2nd and 8th houses of money.

The 5th house of risks and gambles had three rulers because Scorpio was on the cusp and Sagittarius was intercepted. Mars, Pluto and the Sun were conjunct in transit, and all three were knocking at the door of the 5th house. They made several aspects to the directed chart:
  • They conjuncted Neptune, ruler of the 8th house of lotteries.
  • Sextiled the Moon.
  • Trined the South Node in the 8th house, and the Part of Fortune.
  • Opposed Venus, co-ruler of the 11th house of lucky breaks.
  • Trined Uranus and the East Point.
  • Sextiled Transpluto, the North Node, and directed Pluto, co-ruler of the 5th.
  • Squared directed Mars—ruler of the Midheaven and co-ruler of the 5th—and the Prenatal Solar Eclipse at 19 Leo 21 in the 2nd house of money.

Jupiter, planet of bigger, better and more, always instrumental in winning charts, did surprisingly little by transit. It was three degrees past a square to the directed Sun, chart ruler; it was seven degrees from conjuncting directed Transpluto; eight degrees from the North Node; seven degrees from a sextile to Neptune; and seven from a trine to Venus. So, essentially nothing!

Neptune ruled the 8th house of lotteries where Pisces was on the cusp. Transiting Neptune and transiting Uranus were conjunct. Neptune trined directed Venus, co-ruler of the 11th house of lucky breaks through the long reach of an outer planet. It also trined the directed Transpluto / North Node conjunction in the 2nd house of money and resources.

Finally we come to the last winning house, the 11th, which also had two rulers. Venus ruled Taurus on the cusp, and Mercury ruled the intercepted sign of Gemini. Transiting Venus trined the directed Sun—chart ruler—and sextiled the directed Ascendant / Saturn conjunction. Transiting Mercury also ruled of the 2nd house of money and resources, so its many aspects have already been covered.

The transiting Part of Fortune opposed the directed Jupiter, ruler of the intercepted 5th house of risks and gambles.

The transiting Midheaven, a timer like the second hand of a clock, conjuncted the natal Midheaven.
