Subject A Secondary Progressions

In the progressed chart for Subject A, we immediately see four important aspects. Why were they important? Because two of them involved the lights—the Sun and Moon—and the third involved the Moon’s Nodes, the symbols of milestones and turning points. The last involved the Midheaven, which represents our purpose in life and the way the public perceives us. The Midheaven held a new degree of a new sign, which indicates a brand new path, a new beginning.

  • The Moon, ruler of the 2nd house of money, progressed to the 11th house of plot twists. It opposed Neptune in the 5th of risks and gambles, which ruled the Midheaven.
  • The Sun opposed Chiron of triumphant ascendancy and once-in-a-lifetime events.
  • The Moon’s Nodes squared Uranus, the planet of unexpected surprises and sudden changes, which was rising in the 1st house.

Venus, ruler of the natal 5th house of risks and gambles, in the 11th house of plot twists and lucky breaks, was the final dispositor of the progressed chart. It trined Saturn, ruler of the 8th house of lotteries - and no, not by only one degree!

In secondary progressions, the outer planets never move more than two or three degrees from their natal places in our entire lifetime, so Transpluto, Pluto, Neptune, Uranus and Saturn were close to their natal positions. We will briefly check them just to see if any became partile in aspect with any natal planets to which they’d been applying for years.

In this chart, none did.

At first glance, it didn’t appear that anything was happening in this chart, and it took a thorough search to find the aspects that weren’t as obvious as those found in the transits. The transits are only good for one day. Do we have time to look at transits for every day of the year trying to find our lucky days? We don’t; that is why we use progressions to see what important things are due to happen in the upcoming year. The secondary progressed aspects that became partile (or almost so) in the year that Subject A bought the winning ticket were as follows:

The progressed Moon squared the natal Midheaven in a partile aspect. It also opposed natal Neptune in the 6th house. This indicated important changes to her work and daily routine.

The progressed Sun squared natal Venus (in mutual reception with Neptune), ruler of the natal 2nd house of money, in the natal 11th house of plot twists and lucky breaks. The progressed Sun, ruler of the natal 5th house of risks and gambles, would soon leave the 2nd house of money.

The progressed Midheaven conjoined natal Jupiter in the 11th house, and trined natal Uranus, ruler of the 11th house. That’s a very lucky progression.

Mars was the natal chart ruler (Aries rises) and the co-ruler of the 8th house of lotteries (Scorpio on the cusp). Progressed Mars was inconjunct the natal Ascendant, indicating a personal adjustment or identity adjustment to be made. Because it recently entered the 6th house, it may have brought a separation from employment.

Progressed Chiron, of triumphant ascendancy and once-in-a-lifetime events, retrograded into the 8th house of lotteries where it squared natal Venus, ruler of the 2nd house of money, in the 11th house of plot twists and lucky breaks. Chiron also trined the natal East Point to capture the public’s imagination. The progressed East Point sextiled natal Transpluto of payoffs.

The progressed Vertex date with destiny trined natal Venus, ruler of the 2nd house of money, in the 11th house of plot twists. Natal Venus got a lot of action that year. The progressed Vertex date with destiny also squared natal Pluto, co-ruler of the 8th house of lotteries.

Now let’s see how the winning transits activated the secondary progressions.

The transiting Sun, which doesn’t need to rule or occupy a winning house because it’s the Sun and just shining its light is good enough, transited the 5th house of risks and gambles. It formed a grand trine with natal Jupiter and natal Uranus, both of which were angular.

  • The progressed North Node and the progressed East Point, which captures the imagination of the public, were sextile to each other, so the transiting Sun became the apex of a yod; or for midpoint enthusiasts, it conjoined an indirect midpoint between the two.
  • Jupiter was the most elevated progressed planet, and co-ruler of the Pisces Midheaven.
  • Uranus was the rising planet in the progressed chart. Transiting Uranus moved through the 8th house of lotteries where it trined natal Mars, ruler of the 11th house of plot twists.

The transiting Moon, ruler of the progressed second house of money, conjoined progressed Venus, final dispositor of the chart, and ruler of the 5th house of risks and gambles in the 11th house of plot twists.

Transiting Venus, ruler of the 5th house of risks and gambles, conjoined progressed Mars, ruler of the 11th house of plot twists, and opposed the Prenatal Solar Eclipse at 27 Pisces 28. It was also two degrees past a trine to progressed Mercury, the chart ruler. That’s the beauty of these charts. Not every aspect was exact to the minute every time. Maybe nothing is impossible, but hoping for a perfect aspect in every instance is unreasonable. The universe seems to give us a bit of leeway with which to work. Not even the trine of transiting Mercury, the chart ruler, to the progressed Midheaven was exact, nor was its trine to progressed Uranus. Yet we know for certain that Subject A did win in spite of these little “shortcomings,” so we can cut ourselves a little slack when we’re looking for winning aspects in our own charts.

Remember how in the secondary progressed chart the Moon’s Nodes squared the rising Uranus?
  • Saturn ruled the 8th house of lotteries. Transiting Saturn activated the T-square from the North Node end. It was retrograde, so it was also moving back to conjunct the Prenatal Solar Eclipse at 27 Pisces 28 for the second time, while the transiting Midheaven closed in from the other side.
  • At 24 Pisces, the transiting Midheaven sextiled progressed Mercury, the chart ruler (Gemini rises), which presented an opportunity that combined both the personal (chart ruler) and the public (Midheaven) if she made the effort, which she did by purchasing a ticket.
Mars, ruler of the 11th house of plot twists, conjoined / opposed the Midheaven / Nadir axis from the Nadir end. There was probably a rush of excitement and activity around her home and family when she realized she’d won.

The ruler of the new progressed Midheaven, Neptune, transited through the 8th house of lotteries, and trined progressed Mercury, the chart ruler.

Transiting Jupiter, planet of bigger, better and more, trined progressed Saturn, ruler of the 8th house of lotteries. It also squared the progressed Moon, ruler of the 2nd house of money, in the 11th house of plot twists, and squared the Prenatal Lunar Eclipse at 12 Libra 32 in the 5th house of risks and gambles. Translation: expanding joy pertaining to money!

Transiting Pluto, planet of wealth, and the transiting Vertex date with destiny, were just past the square to the Midheaven and closing in on a sextile / trine to the natal Moon’s Nodes, those harbingers of milestones or turning points.

Transiting Chiron, of triumphant ascendancy and once-in-a-lifetime events, passed through the 5th house of risks and gambles, and opposed the progressed Part of Fortune in the 11th house of plot twists.

Transiting Transpluto trined the progressed Part of Fortune and squared the chart ruler, Mercury.

The transiting Vertex date with destiny squared the progressed Midheaven, indicating the importance of the matter.
  • The Vertex also trined and sextiled the progressed Moon’s Nodes in the 10th house of public recognition, and 4th house of home and family, showing the turning points in those areas of her life.
  • The Vertex date with destiny trined Transpluto of payoffs in the progressed 2nd house of money, indicating a windfall.
The transiting Part of Fortune trined progressed Venus, the final dispositor, in the 11th house of plot twists, and the transiting Moon conjoined it. The Moon is the fastest moving “planet,” and works as a timer.

The transiting East Point, which captures the public’s imagination, conjuncted the progressed Ascendant, which identified Subject A and made it personal to her. A conjunction to the Ascendant means “You. Here. Now.”

The transiting Ascendant conjunct the progressed 2nd cusp shows us what personal matter has caught the public eye: money.
  • The transiting Ascendant squared progressed Neptune in the 5th of risks and gambles, which tells us how she acquired the money.
  • Neptune ruled the progressed Midheaven, which explains even more about why she has gained public attention and how it will affect her direction in life.
