The New Moon in effect on December 26, 1991, when Subject E won the
lottery, took place December 5, 1991, at 13 Sagittarius 31, in the
winner’s 1st house, close to the 2nd house
cusp. It trined her natal Venus, which neither ruled nor occupied a
winning house.
We’re not looking
for long-term transits because they would show only minutes of
difference from the winning transits. We’ll begin with Mars, a
chart co-ruler. In the New Moon chart, transiting Mars trined natal
Transpluto of payoffs; squared the Prenatal Solar Eclipse at 5 Pisces
43; separated from a trine to the natal Sun, ruler of the Midheaven.
Transiting Mercury
was in mutual reception with transiting Jupiter, ruler of the 2nd
house of money, and itself ruled two winning houses—the 8th
of lotteries and the 11th of plot twists and lucky
breaks—so we want to pay particular attention to it. Early in
November 1991, roughly two months before the win, Mercury entered
Sagittarius, and went on to trine the stellium of planets and points
at the natal Midheaven, including the Prenatal Lunar Eclipse at 21
Leo 14. On the 28th of November, while transiting the 2nd
house of money, Mercury turned retrograde at 24 Sagittarius, and went
back to trine the stellium at the Midheaven again. At the time of the
New Moon on December 6, while Mercury was retrograde at 19
Sagittarius, it approached the cusp of the 2nd house from
the inside, and trined chart co-ruler Pluto, as well as the South
Node and Prenatal Eclipse. It also sextiled Neptune, ruler of the 5th
house of risks and gambles.
The transiting
Ascendant and Part of Fortune trined natal Chiron, of triumphant
ascendancy and crowning achievement, in the 2nd house of
money.
The transiting
Midheaven sextiled the natal Sun, ruler of the Midheaven, and final
dispositor of the natal chart, and the Prenatal Solar Eclipse at 5
Pisces 43.
The transiting
Vertex trined natal Saturn in the 11th house of plot
twists and lucky breaks.
There were no
whiz-bang fireworks to see in the New Moon chart. That’s okay
because after the New Moon, and before Subject E won the lottery, a
Lunar Eclipse took place on December 21, at 29 Sagittarius 02, in our
winner’s 8th house of lotteries. See the next chart.
As with so many other winners, Subject E won the lottery soon after
an Eclipse. The difference here is that it wasn’t just after an
Eclipse, but between two Eclipses. The Lunar Eclipse at 29
Sagittarius 02 fell into her 8th house of lotteries about
four and a half degrees past the natal Vertex date with destiny.
Although we’re
going to skip over the rulers of the 2nd and 5th
houses because they were ruled by long-term transiting planets, it
won’t hurt to be reminded of the transiting Jupiter trine to the
transiting Uranus and Neptune conjunction in a Grand Trine with natal
Jupiter, especially since they appear to have stolen all of
little Mercury’s thunder.
Because this was a Full Moon (Lunar) rather than a New Moon (Solar) Eclipse, the Eclipse Ascendant and
the Eclipse Part of Fortune were opposite each other. Note that the
Eclipse Ascendant held the same position that Mars held in the New
Moon chart. The Eclipse Ascendant and Part of Fortune each squared
the Prenatal Solar Eclipse at 05 Pisces 43. The Eclipse Ascendant
also trined natal Transpluto of payoffs, while the Eclipse Part of
Fortune sextiled it.
The Eclipse
Midheaven conjuncted the natal Moon in the 11th house of
plot twists and lucky breaks, and squared the natal Vertex date with
destiny in the 8th house of lotteries.
The Eclipse Vertex
date with destiny separated from a conjunction to natal Uranus,
planet of shocks and surprise twists of fate in the 8th house of
lotteries; sextiled natal Jupiter, ruler of the 2nd house
of money; and squared natal Neptune, ruler of the 5th
house of risks and gambles.
The Eclipse East
Point, representing personal matters that occur in public or capture
public imagination, opposed the natal Vertex date with destiny in the
8th house of lotteries, and ramped up public recognition
with a trine to the natal Midheaven and the stellium of planets
conjuncting it, which included natal Mercury, ruler of the 8th
and 11th houses, and the Prenatal Lunar Eclipse at 21 Leo
14. It also squared the natal Moon in the 11th house of
lucky breaks.
While hunting for
winning transits in our own charts, eclipses can be used to narrow
our search, but we shouldn’t limit ourselves only to periods after
an eclipse. The periods between a set can also be fruitful. In
periods where there are three Eclipses in a set, we should check them
all against our charts. We also need to think of opposing
houses as axes, not just worrisome oppositions that are
somehow “against” each other, which is how many novice
astrologers view them. When an eclipse falls into the 2nd
house of money, and the next one falls into the 8th of
lotteries, or vice-versa, or one falls into the 5th house
of risks and gambles, and the next falls into the 11th of
lucky breaks, we need to examine what the rulers of those houses are
doing by transit. Remember, we want to see aspects between the rulers
of those houses (primarily), and aspects from the rulers of those
houses to planets that occupy those houses (secondarily). Then
we look for aspects containing lucky planet combinations, such as
Jupiter/Mars, Jupiter/Uranus, or Jupiter/Pluto. We want to find
Transpluto and Chiron to see what they’re doing. We should look for
aspects to our Ascendant and Midheaven axes, especially if they’re
conjuncted by an eclipse, and pay attention to any planets at the
cusp of one of the winning houses. If we see that the Eclipse
Ascendant, Midheaven, Part of Fortune, Vertex, or East Point make a
close aspect to one of our winning planets or angles at the time of
the Eclipse or New Moon, we need to detail the chart.
A Solar Eclipse took
place on January 4, 1992, nine days after Subject E won the
lottery. At 13 Capricorn 51, it fell into her 2nd house of
money. Maybe this eclipse didn’t trigger the winning of
money, but the spending of it. Maybe she didn’t claim or
receive it until January. When searching for winning transits, think
about how winning would affect your own life. Maybe you would take
the time to consult with an attorney or CPA before claiming your
prize. Maybe it would allow you to marry, divorce, travel or move to
a private island in the Caribbean. Remember to look for what you hope
the affects would be in your own chart. In the chart of Subject E,
this Eclipse:
- Trined her natal Jupiter, ruler of her 2nd house of money.
- Opposed Uranus in the 8th house of lotteries.
- Sextiled Mars, co-ruler of the chart.
- Sextiled and trined the Ascendant / Descendant axis.
Let’s a take a minute to examine Mercury, ruler of the 8th house of lotteries and 11th house of plot twists and lucky breaks, which had been transiting back and forth in aspect to the stellium at the Midheaven. Eclipse Mercury was now conjunct Eclipse Mars—a chart co-ruler—on one side, and the Eclipse Vertex date with destiny on the other. On December 26, at the time of her win, having returned to direct motion, transiting Mercury trined natal Venus. After the win, within a matter of just a few days, it went on to trine Pluto (chart co-ruler), the Prenatal Lunar Eclipse (21 Leo 14), the South Node of the Moon, and at the time of this Solar Eclipse, the Midheaven. Eclipse Mars trined natal Mercury, ruler of the 8th and 11th houses, with an orb of 3 minutes from partile. It may be worth noting that the Eclipse Vertex and Eclipse Transpluto of payoffs were trine to each other with an orb of 2 minutes from partile.
While we’re in the
area, notice that Eclipse Venus, which neither ruled nor occupied a
winning house, was just separating from a trine to the final
dispositor Sun, ruler of the Midheaven, and closing in on the trine
to natal Transpluto of payoffs. By this time, 05 degrees of
Sagittarius should be ringing a bell with us for yet another
reason:
- In the New Moon chart of December 5, 1991, transiting Mars was at 05 Sagittarius 02.
- In the Lunar Eclipse chart of December 21, 1991, the Eclipse Ascendant was at 05 Sagittarius 33, and the Eclipse Part of Fortune was at 05 Gemini 32.
- In this Solar Eclipse chart of January 4, 1992, Eclipse Venus is at 05 Sagittarius 13.
All of them squared
the Prenatal Solar Eclipse at 05 Pisces 43.
The Eclipse
Ascendant (You, Here, Now), and Eclipse Part of Fortune
conjuncted the natal Sun, final dispositor of the chart and ruler of
the Midheaven, and the natal Transpluto of payoffs.
The Eclipse Midheaven trined
- Natal Pluto, chart co-ruler and planet of wealth and transformation.
- The Prenatal Lunar Eclipse at 21 Leo 14, point of fate and destiny.
- The Moon’s South Node, which signifies the reaping of karma, or that which has been sown and is deserved.
- The Midheaven, our purpose in life, an estimation of our reputation, and public recognition.
- And Mercury, ruler of the 8th house of lotteries and 11th house of plot twists and lucky breaks.
All of these aspects were further pulled into a Grand Trine with the
Eclipse Vertex / Mercury / Mars conjunction transiting through the
2nd house of money.
The Eclipse East Point squared natal Neptune, ruler of the 5th
house of risks and gambles.
It’s not unheard
of for the effects of eclipses to manifest before the
celestial event, itself. It happens often in the case of earthquakes,
for instance. Choose some of the important events of your own life,
and crosscheck the timing of them with the next eclipse that
occurred. And don’t forget to check for winning transits between
a set of Eclipses.
